GLYPhs
Symbols from the Subconscious
The GLYPH Series
are personal experiments.
The Glyph Series emerged instinctually as sculptural diary entries of my personal journey to understand myself, and the events in my internal and external world. These allegorical graphic shapes then become a totem, and a repository of these ideas, feelings, or desires. They are my most personal and improvisational work to date.
The Glyph Series features symbols that suggest information, emotions, energy or allegory through graphic shapes, similar to pictorial Egyptian hieroglyphs carved in relief. The abstract steel series is an ongoing exploration of my personal experience, giving voice to my own human journey. Yet the sculpture forms feel otherworldly, like an unearthed relic of a mysterious ancestral civilization, carrying an allegorical message for me that is meant to be decoded through tapping into my subconscious.
The making of the work is always extemporaneous, only a feeling is held in moving meditation while the composite shapes are arranged in resonance with that feeling. It is complete when it feels true to me. That’s the only goal here, no blueprints or engineering plans, just the process of being true to my own soul.
All of the Glyphs are made from the laser-cut steel sections from my larger sculptures, such as Star Seed, Future’s Past, Wishing Tree, and As Above So Below, which have been exhibited by the Smithsonian, the Nevada Museum of Art, and have been exhibited at Sotheby’s, Burning Man auctions, The Delight Factory in NYC and in the InnerLandscapes exhibition at the Bank Arts Space in New York.
